Another Easy Grow Light Setup
This LED grow light setup is a relatively easy process costing very little and consists of a fairly fast setup and install.
The things that you are going to need for this grow light rig are as follows:
- A good sized cooler one that is deeper than it is across such as a Coleman or even a Styrofoam one will do.
- A grow light setup preferably one that includes or is entirely comprised of LED grow lights.
- A Soil compound, I sometimes use a mixture of old carrots, celery and lettuce that has been composted and mixed.
- A Pair of pliers.
- A Good knife or at least one that is sharp enough to cut easily.
- A spray bottle of nutrient water.
- A Roll of aluminum foil.
- Seeds or early stage plants
- Fertilizer
- Power source
- Extension cord if needed
- Way to attach grow light setup to top of cooler can be with screws tie straps or whichever thing you feel will work the best, duct tape works as well.
After you have gathered all of your necessary materials.
1: Grab the cooler and line the sides and top with the aluminum foil, when doing this try and make it so that the aluminum foil goes all the way down the sides and covers all of the exposed areas of the cooler, except for the bottom because you will be putting soil here. With LED lights it is not absolutely necessary to do this but it does not hurt to do it anyway.
2. After you have your foil in go ahead and pour in your soil mix and your fertilizer making sure to stir and mix them together extremely well. Doing this will help safe guard your plants and make their nutrient uptake more even and steady.
3. Once your soil is in plant your seeds or plants water with the nutrient mix, preferably one that is for root stimulation. For most types of plants you are going to plant the seeds about an inch into the soil to make transportation easier, or if you plant to keep them in the cooler better roots.
4. Now that your plants are in the ground, attach your grow lights to the top of the cooler and plug in to make sure that everything is working properly. Once you have established that your lights are good place the top on the cooler and come back in a couple of hours to check on it.
Caution to those who are not using LED grow lights: I am not responsible if you melt your cooler or burn down your house with this setup because your lights got to hot. If you do decide to use this setup with other types of lights make sure to keep the lid well above the lip of the cooler so that ventilation occurs and that you keep a close watch on how close your plants get to the lights as they can easily be burned. If you are using the Styrofoam cooler with this setup you may consider drilling holes through the sides to allow better airflow through the apparatus.
